Planning consent gained in a sensitive location for this studio in Green Belt land for a private client.
Stepping the building allows the creation of the double height studio space and with it being partly inset into the contours of the site the design sensitively conceals its massing and appearance whilst taking advantage of natural light and distant views

Forming the east elevation enclosed and sheltered by the enclosing walls to north and south the roof is extended out and over sails a sloping glass wall to the studio creating a dramatic insertion in the landscape

On the inward side the walls step out in response to the internal spaces and steps
down in level punctuated with full height strip windows and light wells at these junctions

To reflect the enclosing walls of the existing building group simple stone walls in panels form
the external envelope separated from the cart shed by a glass link both vertical and horizontal

WCEC designed media wall in the lounge area created
in the end of the retained cart shed with exposed stone walls

Kitchen and lounge form the link between the existing cart shed with end wall removed

Studio kitchen fitted within enclosing walls and seating bar on feature column support

Half level steps are naturally lit with connected vertical and roof
strip windows as is the junction between the existing and new building

set on custom furniture for equipment and storage

folding doors and the mezzanine above a glass balustrade accessed via spiral stair

expressed circular timber columns and timber roof beams
